New England Fieldstone Flagging - An Excellent Conversation Piece

New England Fieldstone is known for its wide range of colors. This comes from the many different minerals that make up the stone. Add to this the fact that Fieldstone has been exposed to the weather for the last 100+ years, and you have a product with a natural aged beauty. New England Fieldstone from Stoneyard.com has been tested by mother nature while being exposed to many freeze/thaw cycles. Only the stones that pass the test are found here at Stoneyard.com.

Paul Sweeney of Cornerstone Masonry was asked by his customer to create a natural sitting area that is in harmony with the backyard while providing a comfortable place to relax and exchange conversation. Paul chose the New England Fieldstone because it blends beautifully into the natural environment. The fieldstone was installed on a concrete pad in a bed of cement with the joints mortared together. This created a circular patio that will be free of weeds, very low maintenance, and lends itself to pleasant conversation.

The fieldstone was further enhanced to show off its colors by sealing it with a premium silicone sealer that also enhanced the color of the stone. If you want the stone sealed without changing the appearance of the stone you can do this by using the same premium sealer without the color enhancer. Either product adds a barrier of protection that will help keep the stone clean and looking natural for many years to come.

If you need assistance with your stone project, Paul Sweeney of Cornerstone Masonry should be on your short list. Paul has been creating stone masterpieces such as this for the last 30 years. Check out his portfolio of work in our Design Center. Paul Sweeney is a master stone craftsman who loves working with stone and all of its different applications.

Spruce up that Empty Corner with a Fiery Stone Creation!

Unused or underutilized corners and slopes in backyards often pose an issue when trying to design an outdoor living space. Greayer Design Associates was called in by this homeowner to help solve this very problem. They had a large slope dominating the yard that gave them very little working space. The homeowners were hoping to transform this space into a more functional and beautiful area.

After interviewing the homeowner, Rochelle Greayer of Greayer Associates determined that the use of stone and fire was important to the design of the backyard. Also, the slope could be used as the backdrop for a rustic outdoor fireplace. The use of New England Fieldstone gives the project a pastoral feel that looks like it has always been there.

The arched firebox adds a little artistic flair that shows off the mason's skill and ability. The Romans created the arch, and this fireplace features it with the use of bluestone legs and New England Fieldstone for the arch pieces.

Bland backyards can easily be transformed into a relaxing getaway. Wouldn't it be great to step into your backyard and be transported to an exotic location? Beautiful hardscapes with accent plants and accessories that pop, this space is a site to behold. Punches of red and wrought iron pieces give the space a true Tuscan flair.

This space was created by Greayer Design Associates. Contact them today to help create your own "getaway".

Let Magma Design Create Your Backyard Retreat

When you work hard all week, you need a place where you can go and relax and let the stress melt away. For most people, their backyard is the ideal place to unwind. Perfect for both entertainment and privacy, this space was created by Magma Design Group.

Here's a great addition to your home without the walls! An outdoor kitchen adds convenience and beauty to this backyard landscape. The built in grill, refrigerator, and extended counter allows the homeowner to bring their party outside without losing the necessities that are found in the home.

Never to neglect the aquatic element of a design scheme, Quartzite Pavers and Buff Mexican Pebbles accent each other beautifully. Varying sized pebbles adds depth and dimension to a beautiful landscape.

Not all pebbles are used as an accent. Here the pebbles are used as an eye catching focal point. With weaving lines, a faux river creates a border for the garden while also providing curb appeal and a unique flair to the landscape.

When Green and Contemporary Meet, Beautiful Things Happen!

New England Fieldstone is gathered and cultivated from farms and fields throughout New England. Even though the stone has been aged for hundreds of years, it does not always have to look that way. The beautiful colors and cut of the stone add a contemporary flair to this fireplace. With accent pieces and neutral colors, the stone really stands out in a beautiful way. Wood floors and blinds add a natural element that blends harmoniously.

This project used our New England Fieldstone Ledgestone and Ashlar Thin Veneer, incorporating both flats and corners into the project. It was created by Christine Bailey Landscape Services out of Norton, MA. Their customer was looking for something to stand out and also be a local product. Using our New England Fieldstone accomplished both of their wishes giving them a unique fireplace with stone from New England that blends in perfectly with the decor of the room. The wooden mantle surround and limestone hearth add the finishing touches to a perfect fireplace.

See How Art and Stone Meet in a Book by Lew French

Product Description:

More than 125 gorgeous photographs showcase the beauty of award-winning stonemason Lew French's work in eight different homes, illustrating how rounded fieldstone, gray slate, rough granite, and even curvy driftwood can be incorporated into stunning pieces of functional art.

Inside Flap:

When Lew French made his first stone fireplace at age nineteen, he didn't expect to feel so drawn to the simple material. Twenty-eight years and countless projects later, he still feels awed by the presence stone has in a well-designed setting, whether it's an artfully rendered remodel of a writer's stone studio, a playful fireplace, or a carefully crafted garden pathway. This first collection of French's work, filled with artistic inspiration for your own home or landscape, is a study in contrast: contemporary hearths of rustic slate, sculptured walls of both great granite slabs and stacked, rounded fieldstones. More than 130 gorgeous photographs by Alison Shaw illustrate the beauty of French's pieces and invite you to see how rounded fieldstone, grey slate, rough granite, and even curvy driftwood, are incorporated into stunning pieces of functional art. Throughout, French narrates the charming stories behind the projects: how an idea came to be; how a stone-splitting technique is executed; even how one of his most difficult pieces, a three-year-long project, was saved from ruin just in the nick of time, the day it was completed. Stone by Design is the perfect inspiration for anyone interested in adding the beauty of stone to their own home or landscape. Lew French was born in a small farming town in southern Minnesota, called Zumbrota. He started to work with stone when he had a small construction crew right out of high school and built one or two houses a year. He moved to Martha's Vineyard twenty years ago, and has since worked on his own stone designs exclusively. His work has been featured in many publications, including The New York Times and House Beautiful. French was also featured as a Modern Master on the premier season of "Modern Masters" in the House and Garden Network. French lives with his two sons, Asa and Truman. Alison Shaw is a fine-art and editorial photographer who lives and works on Martha's Vineyard, which has provided the inspiration and subject matter for much of her color and black-and-white photography. Over 5000 of her original fine art prints are in public and private collections. Alison's work appears regularly in Yankee Magazine, Martha's Vineyard Magazine and Cape Cod Life. She teaches photography workshops for the Maine Photographic Workshops and Santa Fe Workshops. Alison lives with her family in Oak Bluffs.

Stoneyard.com Introduces Sawn Fieldstone Pavers and Tiles

Our Thin Veneer saw has recently been added to our vast array of stone fabrication equipment. With this new saw we are fabricating many beautiful cuts of New England Fieldstone Thin Veneer. As we cut our Thin Veneer we discovered that we were able to create New England Fieldstone Pavers and Tiles.

Stoneyard.com has just released our New England Fieldstone Round and Square & Rectangular Sawn Top Pavers and Tiles. They are used for both interior and exterior applications. The pavers are approximately 1.5 inches thick and are used for walkways and patios. The Tiles are approximately .75 inches thick and can be used in sunrooms and entryways. Contractors have even used them on bathroom floors and showers.

This is a unique cut of stone that you won't find at Home Depot or Loews. It is environmentally friendly, created by Mother Nature, durable enough to hold up to New England weather and only found at Stoneyard.com. The fact that it looks great is just an added benefit.

The Versatility of New England Fieldstone

Our New England Fieldstone is available for many different uses and in many different ways; Thin Veneer, Building Veneer, Wallstone, and Flagging just to name a few. Here, our New England Fieldstone Round Building Veneer was used to create these grand walls at a private residence in Massachusetts. You can see that tiers were used to add a little depth and architecture to the project.

Long stretches and elevation changes break up and add more character to this impressive structure. Thousands of ton of New England Fieldstone make up this unique system of walls. Clean lines and attention to detail make for a beautiful finished project.

Sleek curvatures and columns accent the entrance to the property. The even lines continue seamlessly throughout the entire project. Each stone was hand selected to fit perfectly just like a piece of a puzzle.

Somerset Stone is now Carrying Stoneyard.com Thin Veneer!

Come and check out our new dealer in Fairfield, ME, Somerset Stone Center & Excavation. Recently, the new owners Wayne and Becky Tibbetts came to visit Stoneyard.com and they told us a little about their experience with the New England Fieldstone Thin Veneer.

The company has been around for over 22 years. They started out specializing in manufactured Thin Veneer and have recently switched their focus to natural stone Thin Veneers. "Once we started showing the New England Fieldstone Thin Veneer in our showroom and explained the difference to my customers, there was no contest. They prefer the natural stone every time."

The common misconception is that natural stone is out of the question because it is more expensive than the manufactured stone. Wayne has discovered that this is simply not true. "The problem with manufactured stone is that you get the same pieces in every box. In order to create something without a repeating pattern, you end up needing to purchase additional material that you would not need using natural stone. You will never find two pieces of New England Fieldstone Thin Veneer that are the same." This is just one of the many different reasons why natural stone is the way to go.

Somerset Stone Center & Excavation carries over 21 different natural stone Thin Veneer. An excellent showroom is also available to help with your stone selection. "Your home is important to you. It offers shelter, comfort, and a sense of well-being. The craftsmen at Somerset Stone Center & Excavation will work with you to design walkways, patios, stonewalls, and more that will add creative design and natural beauty to your home and yard."

So stop by, say hello, and check out all of your options for natural stone Thin Veneer.

New England Fieldstone "In the Buff"

We are "stripping down" the New England Fieldstone Thin Veneer to create our newest line of New England Buff Thin Veneer. It is available in both Mosaic and Square & Rectangular cuts. It is great to use as a stone facade, on a fireplace, or on a stone wall.

The New England Buff Mosaic and Square & Rectangular consist of a tighter range of colors than the New England Fieldstone. These colors include rusts, beige's, tans, light grays, and oranges. This is perfect for those looking for stones with great coloring, but that does not have as wide a color pallet.
In this project, the New England Buff Mosaic was used to face a pre-existing cement wall. Adding the stone as a facade really pulls the backyard entertainment area together. The stone warms the space, creating an inviting environment that blends perfectly with the elements that mother nature has already provided.

Great Stone, Great Mason, Great Home! A Conversation with Fred Anderson of Anderson Construction

Stoneyard.com New England Fieldstone natural stone blends beautifully with your home environment. We are the largest supplier and manufacturer of New England Fieldstone natural stone products. Whether it be thin veneer, building veneer or wallstone, Stoneyard.com has the perfect cut for your next stone project.

Recently, Fred Anderson of Anderson Construction came by the yard to discuss a project with me regarding some special stone that he needed split. He ended up telling us a little about how he feels about Stoneyard.com and our New England Fieldstone products. "They always have an ample supply of whatever size and type of New England Fieldstone that I need. There is never a shortage of stone and I can always count on them to deliver."

A great example he gave was about a job that he completed in Concord, MA. "The job specified some really flat New England Fieldstone. They (Stoneyard.com) were able to produce what I needed to get the job. The stone was sized right for the job application with very little waste. You can get whatever size stone you need with a look that is consistent." This allowed Fred to finish the job on time and on budget. Fred was very happy to work with Stoneyard.com on this challenging project.

Another great aspect of Stoneyard.com and their products is their availability and hands on service. "What I love is that if I ever have any questions about any little detail about the stones or fabrication, John, David, and the sales staff are always available and willing to give their expert opinion on the challenge that I have. They are always glad to help me out." During this visit I worked out a solution to allow Fred to use some stone he had on site that he needed to complete the stonewall he was working on. I didn't sell him any stone, but he will come back next time he needs our New England Fieldstone for his stone solution.

Fred Anderson is an exceptional mason. He tells me that working with stone is like creating a piece of art. You can deliver the same stones to 3 different masons, and each creation will be completely different. If you want top quality workmanship for your landscaping project, feel free to contact Anderson Construction for a review of your plans and an expert consultation.
